About the MA Healthy Soils Guide

The Healthy Soils Guide was created to present a clear path for implementing soil health best practices in the development and construction industries.

It provides professionals with the tools and information needed to update conventional practices that degrade soils with proven techniques that protect and enhance soil health before, during, and after construction.

The Guide is part of a series of state-wide Healthy Soils Initiatives that seek to further investigate and implement the recommendations and action steps identified in the 2023 Massachusetts Healthy Soils Action Plan (HSAP).  It is the result of a multi-firm collaboration led by Regenerative Design Group, Linnean Solutions, BSC Group, and Sasaki, with industry support from A.D. Makepeace, Read Custom Soils, and others. Funding was made possible through a $99,900 Healthy Soils Challenge Grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

Empowering a broad coalition to improve the future

Planners, regulators, architects, developers, engineers, ecologists, environmental monitors, landscape architects, landscape designers, and contractors all have a role to play in maintaining and improving soil health. By offering targeted resources and implementation guides, the website aims to empower these professionals to adopt best practices in soil management and contribute to the overall goals of the HSAP.
